Дело в том, что современные унитазы, новых моделей, практически вытесневшие старые, — неправильны, функционально неправильны. А старые — правильны! Новые «заточены» на экологию, не на здоровье.
Дело в том, что человеку следует знать, как сработал его желудок, вернее, в целом организм (желудок, кишечник, печень, поджелудочная железа, желчный пузырь, и др.). Это нужно для правильной корректировки своей диеты и образа жизни. И уж точно — при болезни, и детям, родителям малых детей. Это — Гиппократ.*
А новые унитазы скрывают от обозрения произведенный продукт под водой (ещё ДО нажатия спуска!). Они имеют коническую, воронкообразную форму, так, что продукт сразу плюхается в воду и скрывается под водой, его не видно. Кстати, порой водяные брызги достигают мягких мест героя на унитазе, что — не очень.
Не то — старые добрые унитазы. Корпус имеет форму полушара, чаши, в передней её части, в глубине видна водичка; а вот в центральной ее части имеется горизонтальная полочка, площадка, на неё-то как раз проецируется анус (сфинктр прямой кишки) восседающего на унитазе героя. Вот она-то (полочка) — не вода! — и принимает на себя произведенный продукт. Водички на полочке совсем немного, водичка польется и забурлит только тогда, когда захочет герой и нажмет спуск. Вот на этой-то полочке все видно, — в отличие от новых конический конструкций: смотри и анализируй.
Как же так случилось, что полезная правильная конструкция вытеснена бесполезной неправильной? Ну, промышленность, торговля всегда мечтают внедрить в пользование новое изделие, особенно — изделие массового пользования. В этом смысле новый унитаз — лакомый вожделенный объект! Однако, одного вожделения, полагаю, не хватило.
Чем качественно отличаются старые и новые конструкции помимо описанного выше функционального дефекта. Возможно, коническая конструкция частично скрывает дурной запах, возможно. Но, думаю, главное в другом. Коническая конструкция требует меньшего расхода воды: вода бурным потоком низвергается сверху вниз практически по вертикали, в направлении действия силы веса, и совместной с весом динамической силой сметает прочь уже утопленный продукт.
В старой конструкции, чаше, вода подаётся на горизонтальную полочку и сила воды действует на продукт горизонтально, стремясь его сдвинуть вперед и сбросить в нижнюю водичку. А сила веса при этом прижимает продукт вертикально к полочке и вследствие трения создаёт силу, направленную горизонтально против устремления воды, силу противодействия смыву продукта. Поэтому требуется бО́льший напор воды или бО́льший расход воды. Порой приходится дважды нажимать спуск.
Раньше бачок с водой располагался отдельно от унитаза высоко под высоким потолком (низких потолков не было — нонсенс!), — соединяясь с унитазом трубой приличного диаметра с тем, чтобы предварительно разогнать ударяющую воду посредством ее падения с высоты бачка и усилить её напор при ударе по продукту. В результате вал воды со сташной силой и шумом прибоя бил в горизонтальном направлении, сметая все на своем пути. Теперь этого нет: бачок находится невысоко над унитазом и вода не получает предварительного ускорения.
Сокращение расхода воды, экономия воды — это забота зелёных, экологов. Поэтому новые унитазы — это их рук дело. В ущерб здоровью. На унитазном ристалище здравоохранение проиграло зелёным.
Я — не против зелёных, чаще всего я разделяю их философию и политику, в том числе — в проблеме экономии воды. Но не в унитазах!
Естественный совет конструкторам унитазов: конечно, их следует делать с горизонтальной либо чуть наклонной полочкой и с гладкой с низким трением поверхностью. Этого можно достичь полированой вставкой в полочку, либо покрытием полочки гладкой пленкой.

Будете менять унитаз, ставьте шаровой унитаз с полочкой, их ещё можно найти.
